6. Conclusion- What have we learnt?
Food show in these three novels are
used to highlight change as the series progresses. The first novel uses food to
highlight the transition from the muggle world to the magical world. It is also
used to invite the reader to a higher fantasy so we are able to experience
Harry’s journey to Hogwarts. In contrast, the second novel portrays food as a
means of destruction due to the negative connotations associated with it. In
the third novel, it is described to be desirable something which entices the
child reader thus making it more tempting. Through these examples it becomes
evident that food is a symbolism for change. The meaning of food is not
consistent throughout the three texts and is constantly changing supporting the
idea that food is never consistent and change is an on-going process. The
progression in Harry’s mentality as well as his journey to self-discovery is
done through the use of food as we are able to identify his growth through the
use of symbolism.
